Tesla delivery day inspection checklist

You have limited time at pickup to flag issues. Bring this checklist on your phone or printed, and walk the car in daylight if possible. Anything you find, log in the Tesla app before you drive off.

Exterior

  • Panel gaps, especially frunk, doors, trunk, and quarter panels. Look for even spacing side to side.
  • Paint: check in bright light for orange peel, runs, chips, and swirl marks.
  • Glass: look for cracks, chips, and hazing on the roof, windshield, and side windows.
  • Wheels and tires: no curb rash, correct wheel option, matching tire brand and DOT dates.
  • Badging: correct model and trim badges (or de-badged as ordered).
  • Charge port door: opens, closes, and latches. Charge port lights function.

Interior

  • Seats: no rips, stains, or loose stitching. Heated and (if applicable) ventilated seats work.
  • Trim: dash, door cards, and headliner sit flush. No rattles when you press.
  • Screen: no dead pixels, no yellowing at edges, no bubbles or scratches.
  • Doors, windows, and mirrors all cycle. Auto-presenting doors work if equipped.
  • Frunk and trunk open and close correctly. Powered tailgate cycles.

Software and account

  • Car is added to your Tesla account in the app.
  • Any Full Self-Driving trial or referral benefit shows on your account.
  • Sentry Mode, Dashcam, and cabin camera settings behave as expected.
  • Bluetooth pairs to your phone. Phone key works.
  • Software version is current or a pending update is visible.

Before you drive off

  • Log any issues in the Tesla app while you are still at the delivery location.
  • Take dated photos of anything cosmetic.
  • Confirm keycard(s) are handed over and paired.
  • Ask about the timeline for any Due Bill items (things Tesla will fix later).

FAQ

Can I reject a Tesla at delivery?

Tesla policy has changed over time. Historically buyers could refuse delivery for major defects and request a different VIN. Ask your delivery advisor how it works today and get any resolution in writing before you accept.

How long do I have to report issues?

Report anything you find in the Tesla app as soon as possible. Documented issues at or right after delivery are handled through the Service Center. Cosmetic issues found weeks later are harder to have covered.

Does using a referral link affect delivery?

No. The referral benefit is tied to the order in your Tesla account. Delivery inspection is separate.
